Feathers'n'Friends Bird & Wildlife Photo Gallery

Our bird and wildlife photo gallery currently shows a few photographs of birds and other native animals that are frequent residents on our property here in north Queensland. This gallery will be updated regularly to reflect changes and availability of topical photos.

We would appreciate guests providing unusual or beautiful photos of birds or native animals that they catch on our property for us to display (with acknowledgement).

Spangled Drongo (baby)

spangled drongo

We found this baby Spangled Drongo on the ground (one of three - the other two had died). Probably the nest blew out of tree leaving all three babies on the ground. We picked the surviving baby up and sat her on a branch where a few more tries at flight ended in the baby sitting on the ground each time. We continued to pick the baby up and place back on the branch where the mother did a great job of feeding. After a few days the baby flew off and we saw baby and mother around our property for a few more days before moving on.

Echidna hiding by digging itself down into the grass near the cottage. Stopped at one stage, sniffing the air (that's his long snout facing the camera), to see if I was still nearby.
